Partied Out

Photo submitted by Margaret Aperture f/5.6 ISO 1250 (automatically selected) and shutter speed 1/125 (automatically selected). I was happy with the lighting and the subject (I am biased!) This photo was taken after completing the session at Dee Why Beach on Saturday 8th November. Photo was taken indoors. »

Bright eyes

Bright eyes

Another from Erika… “My little girl wanted me to take a picture of her with her new bows in her hair. I don’t remember what camera it was with but it was an early morning photo.” My feedback… Hi Erika, another lovely image. The exposure, colour and contrast are spot on. Your focus is good and again the eyes are nice and sharp. It looks like you’ve used on camera... »

These images have been submitted by Amy.   Amy said…   “Here are some photos i took of my girls (C. 3 years and L. 8 months) on the weekend. They are ‘staged’ as I’ve been waiting to do Autumn leave photos and photos of the girls dressed up. Normally I just take photos of them playing. I tried to eliminate background distraction or use the background as a fe... »

Seagulls and Sea!!!

Here are my favourite images from the workshop at Dee Why last weekend. This was the first time I’ve taken my camera off the auto setting so it was fun to play around with aperture, shutter speed and ISO. I would love to know how you think I could improve these shots. Thanks so much, Sally »

This image was submitted by Siobhan in Perth who recently signed up for 10 Free Tips. Siobhan says “Taken with my Nikon D60 DSLR, ISO 400, 200mm, f5.3, 1/160. One of my favourite recent photos, taken at a playground, captures a rare still moment from my ever busy three year old. It’s not often she looks directly at the camera anymore, and I just love full face photos of her. I’ve... »

Miss Lexi-Rose

This image was taken by Robyn (Mrs D Plus 3) at a recent workshop at Dee Why Beach. It’s a lovely portrait of the very lively Lexi. It captures her in a lovely moment in a lovely location. Well done Robyn. My only feedback would be to be careful of blowing out the highlights (i.e. the whites so white that you lose the detail) when you have a contrasty scene like this. Blonde hair against a b... »

Sydney Photography Workshop Image Review

Focus problems? No way! This beautiful image was submitted by Rachel after a recent workshop. The photo was taken at Balmoral Beach in the shade as the sun was quite bright. Rachel was concerned that she was having trouble with focus and getting sharp images. No problem here Rachel. A gorgeous image where the focus falls exactly where it should, on the eyes. Every eyelash stands out – well d... »

Indoors with window light – high ISO

This image was submitted by Amy after a recent workshop. We used this image last night in an online demo of photo editing tips and tricks. This photo was taken indoors using window light. It was shot at a high ISO (1250) which caused quite a lot of digital noise. There is also a lot of contrast between the shadows and highlights on the baby’s face. The eyes are lovely and sharp but a little ... »

Ballet Exam

This beautiful image was submitted by Gill from Cromer. Gill says…”My daughter just about to go into a Ballet Exam. I always seem to have a problem with light either too dark or too bright but this time with a peak of light shining through on this candid shot, it is one of my favourites” Feedback: I think this is a gorgeous image and I’m not surprised it’s one of you ... »
