This image was taken by Robyn (Mrs D Plus 3) at a recent workshop at Dee Why Beach. It’s a lovely portrait of the very lively Lexi. It captures her in a lovely moment in a lovely location. Well done Robyn.
My only feedback would be to be careful of blowing out the highlights (i.e. the whites so white that you lose the detail) when you have a contrasty scene like this. Blonde hair against a bright background is particularly hard.
When you come back for the advanced workshop Robyn, we’ll work on using exposure compensation for tricky lighting situations like this 🙂
In the meantime there is a quick little Lightroom trick I demonstrated in a recent blog post/tutorial that helps to even out the extreme contrast a little and helps to bring back detail in Lexi’s hair. As an added benefit it also lightens the skin tones a little and brings a little more light into her gorgeous face.
And if you don’t have Lightroom, never mind. Future blog posts will show how to achieve a similar effect using other editing programs (some of them free!).
