Miss Lily

Miss Lily

This photo was taken on my Canon EOS 60D on the Av exposure mode, ISO 640, 141mm, f11, 1/50. I was trying for a long time to take this photo of Lily, as she kept moving and she would crawl too close for me to keep my focus. In the end, I put her in the high chair with a rusk, which meant I captured a crumbly face. However with the food and highchair, I was able to make Lily face our back window, which gave her eyes some catchlights and it kept her still.

  1. Hi Annemarie, Thanks for submitting your photo after your workshop on Saturday. Lovely focus on the eyes and great catchlights. The eyes really sparkle. Lighting wise it is hard to get the exposure spot on when the light is coming from behind as it is here but you’ve done really well. Putting her up in the high chair was a good move as it allowed you to get on her level (which is always a nice angle to photograph children), stop her moving and also eliminate most distractions around the house.
I would perhaps have opened up the aperture (f5.6 or f5) to blur the background more and also to allow you to get the ISO down – there is a bit of noise when you look at the image at 100%. Other than that minor suggestion, really nice job.
